Due to the evolving circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Oakville Endoscopy Centre has a modified schedule for procedures. Due to limited availability in procedure time slots, some procedures will be postponed. If you have an upcoming colonoscopy appointment, you will be contacted by our admin staff to confirm the procedure details.

Please see information below regarding all precautions taken at the clinic:

You must wear a face mask, or a face covering, to enter the premises.

ALL PATIENTS PLEASE NOTE:
If you are having a routine screening colonoscopy (ie you have NOT seen one of our gastroenterologists in consultation for specific gastroenterology symptoms or other issues), please call our office IMMEDIATELY (905-842-3666) if any of the following applies to you

  • If you are taking any non-ASA blood thinners (including but not limited to Aggrenox/Dipyridamole, Brilinta/Ticagrelor, Cilostazol, Effient/Prasugrel, Eliquis/ Apixaban, Plavix/Clopidogrel, Pradaxa/Dabigitran, Savaysa/Edoxaban,  Ticlid/Ticlodepine, Warfarin/Coumadin, Xarelto/Rivaroxaban).
  • If you are on home oxygen.
  • If you are experiencing moderate to severe flu-like symptoms.
  • If you are experiencing any gastroenterology-related symptoms (blood in stool, abdominal pain, change in bowel habits, etc).
  • You have experienced any cardiac issues within the last year.
  • If your BMI (body mass index) is over 45, a link to BMI calculator is available below.

For safety reasons, if any of the factors above are present, your procedure may be cancelled.

Also, please note that the OEC has changed its preparation instructions. The preparation instructions from prior procedures will no longer be valid. Please read the following instructions very carefully.

If you have a recent history of congestive heart failure, cirrhosis or kidney disease; please use the Bi-PegLyte preparation instructions.

* Diabetic patients: please bring your glucometer with you to the clinic *


* We have made changes to our consent form. Patients are required to read the consent form prior to their arrival to our clinic for their procedure, and a verbal consent will be obtained by the physician performing the procedure.

COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) Advisory
We are taking the necessary precautions to keep all of our staff and patients safe, including enhanced cleaning protocol, screening staff and patients as they arrive to the clinic, temperature checks and following the guidelines for effective infection control.

If you are coming to the Oakville Endoscopy Centre, please self-assess your symptoms prior to arrival.

The following is a recent update from Halton Public Health:

COVID-19 symptoms range from mild (like the flu and other common respiratory infections) to severe. Common symptoms of COVID-19 include:
  • fever
  • new or worsening cough
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • difficulty swallowing
  • loss of sense of smell or taste
  • nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain
  • nasal congestion or runny nose (without other known cause, such as seasonal allergies)
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • chills
  • pink eye

Symptoms in children, older persons and people living with a developmental disability may be atypical (such as unexplained fatigue or falls).

Individuals with symptoms (even if mild) associated with COVID-19 are required to self-isolate(external PDF) under a class order issued by the Medical Officer of Health under Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

If you think you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has symptoms associated with COVID-19, refer to the Assessment tab on this webpage for information on assessment and testing.

Getting tested
As of May 26, 2020 all residents who have at least one COVID-19 symptom, or are concerned that they have been exposed are encouraged to get assessed and tested at an Assessment Centre (see Assessment and testing).

  • Residents of Oakville, Milton or Halton Hills: Call 905-203-7963 to book an appointment at a Halton Healthcare Assessment Centre.
  • Residents of Burlington: Call 905-632-3737, ext. 6550 to book an appointment at Joseph Brant Hospital COVID-19 Assessment Clinic.
In order to maintain physical distancing and avoid crowding, testing is by appointment only at Assessment Centres. There are no walk-in Assessment Centres in Halton Region.

  • visit the Ontario Government's COVID-19 online self-assessment tool
  • contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000

Doing your part
As restrictions are lifted and the economy reopens, it is more important than ever that we all take the direction of public health seriously. Residents need to continue to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19:
  • stay home as much as possible
  • wash hands frequently
  • when outside the home, practice physical distancing
  • wear a non-medical mask when physical distancing cannot be maintained
